What Algonquin College credentials can I receive?

Online Learning programs give you the same accreditation as on-campus programs. You will receive either a College-Approved Certificate, Ontario College Diploma or Advanced Diploma, or Graduate Certificate upon completion of any program offered by AC Online. Please visit our Credentials website for a complete list of our online programs with credential information.

College-Approved Certificate (<1 to 2 Years)

Certificate programs (sometimes called micro-credentials) represent an introduction into a field of study. They develop skills and knowledge to help graduates perform a defined range of activities. These programs are usually part-time and can introduce you to a new subject or act as a specialization in a certain area. Some programs prepare you for additional study in the field by acting as a first step into a related diploma program.

Ontario College Diploma (1-2 Years)

Diploma programs help prepare you for a specific field of work and include a broad knowledge base, which enables graduates to pursue various career specialties.

These programs are the most common type of college credential, and they usually have full or part-time options. The equivalent of 2 years of study on-campus, most diplomas can be completed in 4 full-time semesters while some intensive diploma programs can be completed in 3 full-time semesters. Because AC Online offers courses throughout the summer as well as the usual school year, students who wish to continue their studies in back-to-back semesters can complete these programs at an accelerated rate. Students taking 3 semesters a year can complete a 4-semester program in a year and 4 months, or a 3-semester program in a year.

Ontario College Advanced Diploma (2-3 Years)

Advanced diplomas are the longest and most advanced credentials currently offered through AC Online. These programs help develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to enable graduates to work within a broad range of technical and/or management functions across many occupational areas.

They usually have full or part-time options. The equivalent of 3 years of study on-campus, most advanced diplomas can be completed in 6 full-time semesters. AC Online offers courses throughout the year, therefore students can take 3 semesters a year and complete a 6-semester program in 2 years.

Graduate Certificates (8 Months-1 Year)

Graduate Certificates are programs open to applicants who have completed previous college or university education. Often they require a university degree or college diploma for admission and they are taught at a higher level than diploma or college certificate programs. Graduate certificates specialize in a certain area ad and usually offered full or part-time online. Most graduate certificates are 2 full-time semesters or 8 months long.
