What technology is required to study online?

To be successful in online studies, all students will require a computer with reliable internet connection. In addition to these basic requirements, individual courses may require additional specialized software. Further information regarding computer software and hardware requirements can be found on this technical requirements link.

Do I need to buy textbooks for my course or program?

Many courses require textbooks and/or additional software. To determine if a textbook is required for your courses, please visit Connections: The Campus Store

How do I order textbooks online?

For Step by Step instructions on ordering textbooks online, please visit our Ordering Textbooks Online web page.

If you are located in the Ottawa area, you can visit the store in person. If you are purchasing your books on campus, please make sure you tell the bookstore staff you are an online student.

If you are outside of the Ottawa area, or unable to come to campus, you can have your textbooks shipped to your location, worldwide. Please note that shipping fees will apply. Please see the website for information

What do I need to know about buying used textbooks?

If you choose to purchase used textbooks, the responsibility is on you as the student to confirm you are purchasing the correct textbooks. The textbook list through Connections: The Campus Store includes specific ISBN numbers for each book. This number is unique to the book we are using and will be updated if the book has changed or a new edition is required.

In addition, some courses may require students to log into an external publisher website using a code packaged with the textbook. This code may be required in order to complete the course successfully. Students who choose to purchase textbooks used may find that the book does not contain the code and/or may be packaged with a code which has been used previously.

What do I need to know about buying eTexts?

If you are purchasing an eText, please keep in mind:

  • In most cases, you only have access to the eText for 6 months, so if you want to hold on to the eBook as a reference source or if you need it again in the next semester, you might have to purchase it again.
  • eTexts are not transferable, even between your own mobile devices.
  • Since they are meant to be read on a computer, they are not easy to print.
  • You will not have the opportunity to re-sell the eText at the end of the semester.
  • Students cannot use eTexts during open book final exams
